It is now possible to completely overhaul your entire lighting system to make it internet connected. The single biggest issue, however, is cost: individual bulbs are pricey, and that’s before you start factoring in the switches. Still, if you’re prepared to fully invest, there are few other smart home gadgets that feel as convenient as Philips Hue’s smart lighting range of bulbs, lamps and switches.

What’s in the Phillips Hue Range?
The Phillips Hue range consists of
- Light strips
- Starter Kits
Broadly the range consists of White and Colour Ambience. The white allows you to move up the scale from cool whites to warm whites. The colour ambience bulbs like the name suggest, allow you the possibility of 16 million colours as Phillips claims.
The range of bulbs also come in some of the major bulb types, ie E14, E27, B22, GU10. You will be pleased to know that all of the bulb types are available in white or colour ambience. The whites are slightly cheaper than the colour ambience bulbs.
Like the Hue bulbs, the Phillips light strips also come in white ambience and colour ambience. The longest strip size if 5 meters which in our opinion should be more than sufficient for all of your back of device or panel lighting needs.
The cheapest deal for a 5m colour ambience light strip is £125.99. Buy here
By far, Phillips biggest range in the Hue product range is in its lamps. There’s a range of 120+ products and growing. From ceiling lights and suspension lights to outdoor lights and bathroom lighting.
The most expensive in the range is the suspended ceiling lights, some of which can be voice controlled. Just the bulbs that are available in white ambience and colour ambience, the suspended ceiling lamps also come in white and colour. Over time the suspended ceiling lights will likely come down in prices. In the meanwhile, you can’t go wrong with the table lamp range. Though a fair bit more expensive than normal lamps, these are modern sleek lamps that offer all of the features of the more expensive ceiling lights.
We recommend the Phillips Hue Portable Table Lamp £69.99 and the Phillips Hue Iris Colour LED smart mood lamp £ 69.99.
